Jessica Fletcher is spending Christmas in Cabot Cove. When the wife of a Boston tycoon ends up dead in an old home that Cabot Cove Realtor Eve Simpson is trying to sell, it's up to Jessica to figure out who's been naughty and nice.
It is no secret that I love Murder, She Wrote. The television show is one of my favorite TV-based mystery series of all time, and I really enjoy the official spin-off series of novels that started with Murder, She Wrote: Gin and Daggers in 1989. I also enjoy a good holiday cozy mystery, so I was super excited to read Murder, She Wrote: A Killer Christmas.
I liked that this book was set in Cabot Cove. Although traveling with the globetrotting Jessica Fletcher is fun, there is no place like home. With the book set in Cabot Cove, we get to see lots of recurring characters, including Grady, Seth, Loretta, Eve Simpson, and Mort (to name a few).
Jessica and the rest of the Cabot Cove community hope to win a contest that would make them the official Christmas Town of Maine and get their small village advertised in a travel brochure. The winning town also gets some prize money that can be used for community projects.
These preparations make a good backdrop for the mystery, which is a traditional whodunnit involving a long-lost relative, a contested inheritance, and a Boston tycoon.
Author Terrie Farley Moran does an outstanding job of writing Jessica’s character and staying true to the television show. Like the other Murder, She Wrote books she has written, A Killer Christmas feels familiar and allows the reader to go on another adventure with Jessica and the Cabot Cove gang.
If you like Murder, She Wrote books and seasonal reads, you can’t go wrong with A Killer Christmas.
Review disclosure: I received an advanced reader copy of Murder, She Wrote: A Killer Christmas from Net Galley and Berkley. All opinions are my own.
