Cheesemonger Willa Bauer is participating in Sonoma Valley’s annual Dairy Days festival. When someone takes out the coordinator of the Miss Dairy pageant, Willa mixes in and tries to figure out who wanted the bossy boss lady out of the “whey.”
I wanted to read Fondue or Die because it is the latest installment of a really good cozy mystery series. The Cheese Shop Mysteries are among the most popular cozy mysteries on the market right now—and for good reason. They are the perfect mix of fun and suspense. The author, Korina Moss, really has a knack for writing cozies.
Fondue or Die turned out to be a super fun fall read. The story is set during Labor Day Weekend. Willa and the staff of the Curds and Whey cheese shop travel to a neighboring town (Lockwood) for the annual Dairy Days festival. Festival activities include butter sculptures, goat races, cheese wheel relays, and a Miss Dairy pageant.
Nadine, the lady running the Miss Dairy pageant, is pretty intense, so when she ends up dead, there are a few people on the suspect list. Fortunately, Willa and Team Cheese are on the case. They mix in and churn clues until they narrow down the suspects and find the killer.
Fondue or Die was a great read. The mystery is fun, the humor is just right, and there are lots of great cheese references for readers (like me) who enjoy the culinary aspect of this series. The book ends with three cheesy recipes, including a unique fall fondue recipe that you’re going to want to try.
I loved Fondue or Die and can’t wait to read more books in this amazing cozy mystery series.
Review disclosure: I received an advanced reader copy of Fondue or Die from Net Galley and St Martin’s Press. This did not impact my review. All opinions are my own.
